Getting to Siberut
Reaching the Mentawai Islands takes effort — but every step is worth it. Here's exactly how to get from your front door to our camp.
- 1
Fly to Padang, Indonesia (PDG)
Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) in West Sumatra is your gateway to the Mentawais. There are no direct international flights — connect via:
- Jakarta (CGK) — most frequent connections, all Indonesian carriers. Flight ~1h 40min.
- Kuala Lumpur (KUL) — Air Asia flies direct, great for Southeast Asian connections. Flight ~1h 20min.
- Singapore (SIN) — good hub for travellers from Europe, Australia, or Americas. Connect via KUL or Jakarta.
Book flights to Padang as early as possible — last-minute fares from Jakarta can be very expensive.
- 2
Airport transfer (we handle this)
We arrange pickup from Padang airport and transport to the ferry terminal at Bungus Port. This is included in all camp packages — just send us your flight details after booking.
Drive time from PDG to Bungus Port: approximately 30–45 minutes.
- 3
Boat crossing to Siberut
From Bungus Port, we take a speedboat or charter vessel to Siberut Island. Options:
Option Duration Notes Private speedboat ~3 hours Fastest, most comfortable. Arranged by camp. Public ferry (ASDP) 8–10 hours Overnight option, very cheap, basic conditions. Charter boat 4–6 hours Good for groups. We organize on request. Sea conditions on the Mentawai Strait vary. In peak swell season the crossing can be rough. Bring sea sickness tablets.
- 4
Arrive at camp
Our team meets you at the jetty and takes you directly to camp. Depending on which camp you've booked, the final leg may be a short speedboat transfer from the main jetty to the camp's private dock.
Typical total journey time door-to-camp from Europe: 24–30 hours. From Australia: 14–18 hours.
Visas & Entry Requirements
Citizens of most Western countries (US, EU, UK, Australia, Canada, and 80+ others) are eligible for Indonesia's Visa on Arrival (VoA) — a 30-day stay, extendable once for an additional 30 days. Fee is approximately USD $35, paid at the immigration counter.
Some nationalities require a visa in advance. Check the official Indonesian immigration website or your nearest Indonesian consulate before travelling.
Passport validity: Indonesian immigration requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
